Rob joynes
Lovers Weekend is proud to release the debut album by Seattle singer-songwriter Rob Joynes. Rob is the former front man for the band Creech, whose beautiful 2013 album Pasture remains a favorite of ours. In the intervening years, Rob has mostly eschewed a backing band, preferring to write, perform, and tour solo. However, for his new album Back Forty, Rob assembled an array of Seattle musicians to fill out his songs with warm, lush instrumentation that compliments his evocative lyrics.
Recorded at the storied Seattle studio Hall of Justice, where dozens of legendary bands (Nirvana, Built to Spill, Mudhoney, Low, Blonde Redhead to name a few) have recorded some of their best albums, Back Forty touches on themes of queer identity, grief, family, and growing older, all with Rob’s trademark candor. Sam Rosson’s production brings the songs to life with pure tones and a compelling intimacy that suits the subject matter. Back Forty is dreamy and genuine, a whisper from Rob’s heart, buried somewhere in northern Spokane.
